VSO SERVICES

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County (VACCC) Veteran Service Officer (VSO) Program provides free assistance to eligible Veterans, service members, and their families with navigating the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) system and accessing earned benefits. VACCC VSOs assist with filing and appealing VA disability compensation claims, pension claims, survivor benefits, healthcare enrollment, education benefits, and other VA-related services. The program is designed to help Veterans better understand the claims process while ensuring applications and supporting documentation are properly prepared and submitted.

Basic Eligibility Requirements

To receive assistance through the VACCC VSO Program, individuals are generally encouraged to provide:

  • DD214 or qualifying military discharge paperwork
  • Current government-issued photo identification
  • Any relevant VA documentation, including:
    • VA decision letters
    • Rating decisions
    • Benefit summary letters
    • Previous claims or appeal paperwork
  • Relevant medical documentation related to the claim or requested service

National Guard and Reserve members may also be asked to provide additional service documentation, such as an NGB-22, depending on the requested service or claim type.
