VA DISABILITY COMPENSATION CLAIMS

VA Disability Compensation is a tax-free monthly benefit provided by the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to Veterans who suffered injuries, illnesses, or medical conditions that were caused or aggravated by their military service. These claims may include physical injuries, chronic illnesses, mental health conditions, exposure-related illnesses, hearing loss, PTSD, and other service-connected conditions. The amount of compensation awarded is determined by the VA based on the severity of the condition and its impact on the Veteran’s daily life and ability to function.

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Cook County (VACCC) Veteran Service Officer (VSO) Program provides free assistance to eligible Veterans who are filing new VA disability claims, supplemental claims, claim increases, Higher-Level Reviews, and appeals. VACCC VSOs help Veterans navigate the VA claims process by reviewing eligibility, assisting with claim preparation, gathering and organizing supporting documentation, submitting claims to the VA, and helping Veterans better understand the status and progression of their case.
